Brow lamination, hybrid stain or a classic tint?

Three brow treatments that sound similar and change quite different things. Here is what each one does, and which to book first.

Softly defined, brushed-up brows after a brow treatment at Atlas of Beauty

Start with what changes

Shaping changes the outline. Tint changes the colour of the hairs. A hybrid stain changes the colour of the hairs and the skin beneath them. Lamination changes the direction the hairs grow in.

Almost every question about brow treatments answers itself once those four are clear.

Choose lamination if

  • Your brow hairs grow downward, sideways, or in several directions at once.
  • You brush your brows up with a spoolie and prefer them that way.
  • There are gaps that close when the hairs are redirected rather than coloured.
  • You prefer a brushed-up result created by redirecting the natural brow hairs.

Choose a tint or hybrid stain if

  • The shape is fine and it is depth of colour you are missing.
  • Your brow hairs are fair, and the shape disappears without makeup.
  • You want something quick, subtle and low commitment. Tint is the softer of the two.
  • You have sparse patches where skin tone, not hair colour, is what makes them obvious. That is the hybrid stain.

How the appointment runs

Every brow treatment begins with a conversation about the shape, because brow shaping is difficult to undo quickly. Nothing is decided for you.

From there it is measuring and mapping, then the treatment itself. Brow Shape & Tint takes 30 minutes; Brow Shape & Hybrid Stain and both lamination services take 45 minutes.

A patch test may be required before colour treatments. Please mention any previous reactions to tints, adhesives or skincare when you book.

If you are still unsure

Book Brow Shape & Tint. It is the smallest step, it costs the least, and it gives us both the information needed to decide whether lamination is worth doing next time.

There is no rush toward the bigger treatment.

Our

Frequently asked questions.

What is the difference between lamination and tint?+

Lamination changes the direction the brow hairs sit in, setting them brushed up and outward so the brow looks fuller. Tint changes the colour of the hairs.

They do different jobs, which is why lamination is offered together with tint and shape rather than on its own.

What is a hybrid stain?+

A hybrid stain tints the brow hairs and also adds colour to the skin beneath, so sparse areas look filled rather than just darker.

It reads slightly bolder and more defined than a classic tint. At Atlas of Beauty it is $55 with shaping, or $90 as part of lamination.

Which should I choose if I have never had brows done?+

Brow Shape & Tint, 30 minutes at $50, is the easiest starting point. It is the gentlest change and it tells us how your brows behave.

Lamination is a bigger shift and is best decided on once you know that.
