A guide to the intraoral facial massage technique used around the cheeks and jaw, including how it feels and the limits of a beauty and relaxation treatment.

Buccal massage is an intraoral facial massage technique performed with gloved hands. It allows the therapist to work with areas around the cheeks and jaw from inside the mouth. The intraoral approach allows these areas to be worked from a different angle than external facial massage.
The technique is slow and controlled. It can feel unfamiliar at first, and pressure is adjusted throughout so you can remain comfortable.
Some clients choose buccal massage because they notice a feeling of muscular tension around the cheeks or jaw. They may find that the technique helps ease that feeling and leaves the face feeling more relaxed.
Buccal massage is offered as a beauty and relaxation treatment. It is not a treatment for TMJ dysfunction, bruxism or an underlying medical condition. Ongoing jaw pain, clicking, headaches or dental concerns should be discussed with a GP, dentist or physiotherapist.
Some clients find that their face feels more relaxed after treatment and may notice a temporarily refreshed or more defined appearance. Results vary between individuals, and buccal massage does not permanently alter facial structure.
Buccal massage is the heart of our signature Aura Ritual, a 90-minute facial that pairs active skincare with buccal massage, lymphatic drainage, cupping and gua sha. It's the treatment we often recommend for clients experiencing buccal massage for the first time.
